Every Saturday before Thanksgiving, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe and our event partners invite you on a self-guided tour of a selection of 5-6 homes in the beautiful Simcoe region that possess a unique charm - each hand-picked by our Chairperson, Cindy McQuirter-Fairley. These homes may be large, small, heritage or new, or simply spectacular in design. Whatever the case, the line-up is sure to be elegant and uniquely decorated – you’re in for a treat!
To participate in the tour, purchase a Limited Edition Guidebook at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office or at a participating outlet. Simply follow the map provided and show your book at each home you choose to view. The cost is $30 and includes a light catered lunch served at Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons. Each Limited Edition Guidebook features artist renderings and write-ups about each home.
This year we added a new element to the tour; Decorating Seminar by Tripps Paint and Decorating featuring Irene Turnbull. These seminar with be delivered at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00pm (if demand is there). Please register ahead of time for the decorating seminar by calling 526-5051 askfor Melissa. A minimum of $5.00 donation is payable at the gate. The location of the seminar will be at Nicola and Andrew Combes new Barn at 180 North Shore Drive.
The Showcase of Homes Tour is the signature annual fundraiser supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe. This highly popular event helps to cover the costs of our child and youth mentoring programs for our Little Brothers and Sisters. Our agencies do not receive government funding - our range of mentoring services are funded primarily by individual and corporate donations and sponsorships, gaming, grants, fundraisers, and a whole lot of community spirit!
Our goal is to serve more children: to ensure that every child in North Simcoe who needs a mentor has a mentor. Through mentoring, we create friendships that lead to increased self-esteem, behavioral and social improvements, higher educational achievements, new skill sets, and ultimately, broadened horizons. Whether it be recreational, educational, or cultural activities, attending camps, or just having a “feel good” craft day... all children deserve to feel special - and with your help, this will happen.
