About Us

As Canada’s leading child and youth mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire and empower children and youth to reach their potential, both as individuals and citizens.

Our History in North Simcoe

Big Brothers of North Simcoe has been creating friendships since 1975. We started out matching Big Brothers with Little Brothers and have grown to include a variety of different programs.

Big Sisters Association of Huronia was originally conceived by the Huronia Social Planning and the Quota Club of Huronia in 1976.

In 2002, the Board of Directors of Big Sisters enquired as to whether there was an interest in opening new discussions as to how the two agencies might pool their resources to meet the needs of the children in North Simcoe.  Both Boards agreed to explore the options and feasibility of such action.  The support for it was reinforced by the pending unification of Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada and the Big Sisters Association into a new Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.  It was agreed that the two agencies would continue to retain a separate corporate identity under the authority of a common board of directors.  They would share the staff and resources resulting in:

            ·     Consistency to service, standards and management;

            ·          Reduction of duplication of costs;

            ·          Recognition by the community that the two agencies were working together to better serve the children; and

            ·          Retention of implementation options

Since December 12 2008 the two agencies amalgamated into one agency Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe.

We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada...
